Boys/Girls AAA Hockey
We genuinely appreciate your interest in this program. If you have interest in trying out for one of our teams, please go through the appropriate registration links on this page and register for a tryout. Thunder tryouts for our 2027 teams will be held August 17-20, at Ames Arena in Lakeville. Immediately after tryouts, we will be sending out offers to fill the various teams at those levels.
Ages
This program is suitable for boys and girls players, aged 7 years to high school, that have at least 1 year of organized hockey under their belt.
When
The tryouts will take place yearly towards the end of August, with the season starting the following April. We take a couple months off in the summer and typically wrap up our season mid to late September.
Games
Each team will have ~8 scrimmages in addition to the tournament games (4 games in the Spring and 4 games in the Summer). Some of our teams will have games scheduled in the MASH League.
Jerseys
Jerseys and socks are provided within the registration cost. Please look for the jersey sizing/number form during the registration process. If you were a returning player and feel like you do not need to order a new jersey, you will receive $100 discount at registration.
Where
The majority of the practices will take place in Lakeville, with a few exceptions, which will take place in a nearby rink (Prior Lake, Burnsville, etc.)
Practices
Practices will take place 2-3 times per week. Most of the practices will take place during the week. Also, we try to limit our weekend practices to Sunday night during the summer.
Tournaments
Each team will be registered for one tournament in the Spring session and one in the Summer session. Tournaments are highly vetted and a lot of work takes place to try to ensure that each team plays in tournaments that fit their ability level.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there specific goalie training within this program?
Yes! Each goalie will receive 8 hours of goalie specific training throughout the Thunder season. Training will be provided by Hawkeye Goaltending Training, and is covered by the registration cost.
Are there opportunities for skating or skills sessions during the Thunder season?
We are currently working on setting up skating and skills groups, which would be additional to team registration, and will run during the Thunder season. These will be only be offered to Thunder families, unless sessions are not filled.

-26 hours of practice ice (The program will run from early April to Mid-May. Then we take a break and pick up the last week or two in July and run through most of September.)
-8+ scrimmages (4 in the spring and 4 in the summer). We do our best to schedule scrimmages, but this is somewhat depended upon other programs' availability.
-1 Spring Tournament and 1 Summer Tournament. (8+ Games for Each Team)
-Goalies will receive 8 hours of elite goalie specific development through Hawkeye Goaltending Training.
-Home and Away Jerseys.
-Home and Away Socks.
-Ability to register for all Thunder Skating and Skills camps.
*2019 team will not be doing tournaments, due to lack of tournaments at that age level (registration price for this team will be $700). If you are interested in being part of this team, please reach out to Thunder Admin.
